Nike Air Huarache Escape Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The last retro colorway of this shoe I picked up were the Scream Greens. I grabbed these Nike Air Huarache Escape off Nike right at release date. The shoe is a retro of a popular colorway from 2003.

These come in the throwback reddish orange box with grey stripes on the bottom similar to the Air Max 3 retros we’ve been seeing, only regular width instead of skinny. They come with plain white laces. The paper in the box also sports a special print pattern.

The OG 2003 colorway went through the moon on resale and while these aren’t really doing the same, at least I now have these finally in the collection!!!

How Are The Materials?

The upper here is pretty much nubuck and neoprene/mesh with some rubbery plastic pieces towards the heel for support. The neorprene is fine; it is what it is. I can only really comment on the nubuck being used and it is definitely soft. Although I’d say the materials in the similarly colored Stussy Desert Oak Huaraches are a bit softer. Overall I’d say the materials are nice compared to other general release huaraches I’ve gotten in the past; the shoe has a premium look and feel to it even if the bulk of the upper is neoprene.

How Do They Fit?

These have a reputation for fitting small. I went a half size up and I found them to fit snug but not uncomfortable. Underfoot these an sport encapsulated air unit with a chunky foam sole (yet still look sleek). The cushioning on these is indeed very comfy.
